2024 Ford Super Duty Review | An Overview of the 2024 North American Truck of the Year
The 2024 Ford Super Duty lineup includes the hard-working F-250, F-350, F-450 and more. These heavy duty pickups are popular, judging by their leadership in US sales.
Still, how does the new model year compete in a busy marketplace? Consumers deserve to know. That’s the reason we’ve brought together this overview. It should help shoppers determine whether this lineup has a truck that’s right for their business fleet or personal use.
Demonstrating that Ford keeps improving these heavy duty trucks every year, the SuperDuty earned the coveted 2024 North American Truck of the Year Award. This is the 30th year for the annual NACTOY Awards. To earn this award, SuperDuty Fords and other eligible trucks were driven, evaluated, and ultimately judged by some 50 U.S. and Canadian automotive journalists..
What’s New for the 2024 F-Series?
The 2024 Ford F-Series returns on the heels of a complete redesign for 2023. Every aspect has been improved in some way. Technology has moved even more to the forefront. Amenities and luxuries have expanded on the top trims. Engine options include class leading choices such as the High-Output Turbo Diesel.
Pro Upfit Integration is a Ford system that allows a work truck owner to purchase a vehicle that’s ready for the next step. It takes the guesswork out of upfits and reduces the time needed to accomplish them.
Whether for work or adventure, Ford technologies have increased to match the offerings on the Ford F-150. This means you can get the most sought-after devices. Driver assist features can help drivers with safe travel, parking, and trailering.
Trailer Navigation uses your input about the size, weight and height of your trailer to discover if there are better or best routes for you. It will eliminate routes with bridges too low and help you bypass the steepest and most challenging grades.
Pro Power Onboard offers the ability to plug in your appliances to the truck. To accommodate different shoppers, there are different levels of power available. This feature can power your electric saw or other devices at a work site or simply in your backyard. It can be used at campsites, tailgate parties, and even at home if your power has gone out.
Turbo Diesel Performance
The 2024 Super Duty lineup offers an exceptional 6.7-liter Power Stroke V8 turbo diesel engine. This powerhouse of an engine is standard on the F-450 and available on both the 2024 Ford F-350 and F-250 work trucks. This engine delivers an impressive 475 horsepower and a whopping 1,050 pound-feet of torque.
You can choose the class leading HIgh Output Turbo Diesel that generates 500 horsepower and 1,200 lb-ft of torque. An innovative layout contributes to the engine's efficiency and cooling capabilities, enhancing its overall performance.
Best in class for gooseneck towing, the Ford F-450 can tow up to 40,000 pounds with a gooseneck hitch and the high output diesel engine. Best in class for conventional towing, Ford F-350s can tow up to 30,000 pounds with the same engine.

Gas Engine Performance
Best in class ratings aren’t limited to diesel trucks. The Ford F-350 DRW regular cab model can handle up to 8,000 pounds of payload.
The 7.3L Gas V8 is the largest engine among full size trucks today. Even better, its performance is best in class. Output is rated at 430 horsepower and 485 lb-ft of torque. This engine is available on the 2024 Ford F-250 as well as the F-350.
For the new generation, engineers worked to improve low-end torque. This effort improves how fast the truck can move off the line. It assists with towing, hauling and off-roading. It ensures heavy duty pickup truck drivers have the grunt needed for slow-and-go traffic situations.
The 6.8L Gas V8 is quite powerful, too. It has that low-end torque at low RPMs for extra grunt. Output is 405 horsepower and 445 lb-ft of torque. The TorqShift 10-speed automatic transmission is designed to be flexible. It’s exactly what a big rig like these full sized pickup trucks need.
With its wide gear arc, it provides low, midrange and three overdrive gears for optimal performance in every situation and at every speed. Selectable modes include slippery, deep sand/snow and tow-haul. There’s also Eco mode to help ford work trucks achieve their best fuel economy.
Trailer Tech
Ford has been leading the way on towing technologies. That’s why there’s more trailer tech available on the 2024 Ford Super Duty than any other heavy duty truck lineup. One of our favorites is trailer navigation.
During hookup, the Pro Trailer Hitch Assist helps ensure that the hitch ball is aligned with the trailer receiver. A trailer hitch camera provides an eagle eye view.
This plans a route for you based on the size, weight and height of your tandem trailer. It looks ahead to find low bridges, tunnels, steep grades and other obstacles to safe travel. This is both a time saver and a safety precaution.
A blind spot monitor can be expanded to include up to 33 feet behind the truck bumper. This should be enough to watch the sides of anything you tow.
The FordPass app can monitor the trailer connection and warn you if someone is trying to disconnect the trailer from your Ford F-Series truck.
Business Tech
With Ford Sync, drivers can use Apple CarPlay or Android Auto to put their navigation app on the screen. This gives them turn-by-turn directions and maps via Google Maps, Apple Maps, Waze or other common smartphone apps.
Android Auto and Apple CarPlay will connect with your phone for maximum app use. This ensures that every truck in the Super Duty lineup is capable of providing navigation whether it’s through your map apps or built-in navigation.
FordPass Connect goes where you go. It’s an app on the phone that allows the driver -- or business fleet manager -- to check fuel levels and other details. The driver can start the truck remotely to cool off the cabin or unlock the doors for a workmate.
Fleet Start Inhibit is a management tool. To prevent a truck from being used off the clock, the manager can set the schedule for when the truck may be started.
Since the cockpit may double as a manager’s desk, the center console has a slot a driver can stand a tablet upright. At a remote worksite, the driver and workmates can use 5G Wi-Fi. This WiFi connection also allows for software updates to navigation and other built-in features.
Payload Capacity and Bed Sizes
Inside the two F-Series beds, cargo volume is 78.5 or 65.4 cubic feet.. The 6.75-foot bed is 81.9 inches long. The longer choice is an 8-foot bed that measures 98.1 inches longer.
A bed camera can show the driver what’s happening in the cargo bed during travel. These beds have 21-inch walls. They measure 66.9 inches at the widest point and 50.5 inches at the wheel wells.
It’s easier to weigh the load with Ford’s Onboard Scales. An exterior light panel can show the loaders how close it is to full. Inside the touchscreen and digital instrument panel can warn the driver if a load is getting too full.
F-450 trucks can handle as much as 6,210 pounds. With double rear wheels, the 2024 Ford F-350 8-footer can handle up to 7,200 pounds. The regular bed can handle up to 4,610 pounds.
The tailgate is 60.5 inches wide, and a convenient step helps users in and out of the bed. In a Ford exclusive, tailgate-down cameras help the driver avoid ramming an open tailgate into an obstacle. In fact, reverse sensing can be aware of the extra length and provide earlier warnings than it would with the tailgate up.
Tough Enough for the Trail
All Ford F-250s and other F-Series trucks stand tall and are built tough. Their high ground clearance is a bonus on dusty worksites, dirt roads, and grassy campsites. With four-wheel drive, they become even more trail ready.
Terrain management and an electronic locking rear differential are part of the XL Off-road package. This sub trim has a raised air dam, more skid plates, rugged tires, and water-fording axle vent tubes.
Super Duty Tremor models trade the 33-inch tires for big 35-inch all-terrain Goodyear tires. A front end lift adds to already substantial ground clearance. The Dana heavy duty front axle has a limited slip differential.
A Crawl driving mode makes it easier to handle the slow-and-go aspects of rocky trails. To manage the throttle while the driver steers, there’s Ford Trail Control.
Tremors come with Trail Turn Assist, a class-exclusive Ford feature. This system can turn each wheel at a different angle to achieve tighter turns on a tough trail.
Driver Assistance
If anyone needs extra safety precautions, it’s the drivers of work trucks, particularly heavy duty ones like the F-Series. That’s why Ford has made it possible for F-250s and F-350s to add crash avoidance systems.
Watching the sides and the front, there’s a blind spot monitor, a lane departure assist, and a forward collision system with an autobrake. One of the newest available features is brake assistance for the front and rear. That will help the big rig avoid cars and other obstacles in crowded parking areas.
Lane centering and adaptive cruise control are good partners for any driver. This system can slow and go with traffic. Plus it can help maintain the safest trajectory within the lane lines.

Regular, Super or Crew Cab
The regular cab has three front seats and a lower cost to suit more businesses. XLT models add a power-adjustable driver’s seat.
SuperDuty SuperCabs have four doors and enough seats for a crew. The rear seat is a 60/40 fold-up or flip-up bench seat with room for second-row storage. Lariat models add power-adjustable chairs for both front positions. The driver’s chair gains memory functions.
Even bigger, the SuperDuty Crew Cab has 40.4 inches of headroom and 43.6 inches of legroom for the second-row passengers. When the seats are folded, there’s 52.1 cubic feet of cargo space. Furthermore, the rear bench adds lockable under-seat storage and dual integrated cupholders in an armrest.
Work Trucks and Luxury Liners
Work trucks were once bare-bones cabins with nothing to assist the driver. Today’s Ford Series is packed with ways to get comfortable. XL models have everything that today’s driver must have, including a touchscreen infotainment system and a 4.2-inch customizable driver’s screen.
With a larger 12-inch touchscreen, the XLT is even better outfitted for work, commuting or date night. This trim has standard four-wheel drive, adding value to this package for those who want a step up from the XL.
Higher trims add upscale leather upholstery and other luxury items. A massage chair can take care of a driver’s stress. Dual ventilated seats take the edge off of the summer heat in Phoenix AZ. These are just some of the amenities on the Super Duty top trims, including the Lariat, King Ranch, Limited and Platinum.
